Introduction to the Green Paradise of Tenerife
The Anaga Massif is one of Tenerife's most impressive natural treasures and a dream destination for motorcyclists. This mountainous formation, estimated to be between 7 and 9 million years old, is one of the oldest areas on the island and stretches from Punta de Anaga to Cruz del Carmen, reaching altitudes of over 1,000 metres.
Declared a Rural Park in 1994 and a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 2015, Anaga is a territory of extraordinary biodiversity where the dense laurel forest, a relic of the Tertiary period, is home to countless endemic species that you won't find anywhere else on the planet.
For motorcyclists, Anaga represents the perfect balance between technical challenge and scenic reward, with winding roads winding through lush forests and steep cliffs, offering unforgettable panoramas of the Atlantic Ocean.

Detailed Itinerary: The Curve by Curve Journey
Stage 1: From Puerto de la Cruz to San Andrés (45 km)
Our circuit begins in Puerto de la Cruz, a popular tourist area in the north of Tenerife. We will take the TF-5 motorway towards Santa Cruz, but we will avoid entering the capital and head directly towards San Andrés, a small coastal town where the first jewel of the route awaits us: the beach of Las Teresitas, with its characteristic golden sand imported from the Sahara.
Points of interest:
- Viewpoint of Las Teresitas
- Las Teresitas beach (recommended stop for a coffee)
- San Andrés Military Battery (historical fortification)
Stage 2: Going into the Heart of Anaga (55 km)
From San Andrés, the real adventure begins. We take the TF-12 which takes us into the Anaga Rural Park, where the roads begin to narrow and the curves multiply. The asphalt, generally in good condition, winds through a dense laurel forest that sometimes forms real tunnels of vegetation.
Towns and places not to be missed:
- Taganana: Picturesque village with whitewashed houses and narrow streets that seem to have been frozen in time.
- Almáciga: Small coastal town with stunning sea views.
- Benijo Beach: Wild black sand beach flanked by impressive rock formations.
- Pico del Inglés viewpoint: It offers one of the most spectacular panoramic views of the island, with views of Santa Cruz, La Laguna and the Aguere Valley.
Stage 3: Departure from the Park to La Laguna (30 km)
We continue our route out of the Rural Park through Las Mercedes, in the direction of La Laguna. This area offers a marked contrast, gradually passing from the wild environment of Anaga to more urbanised areas, but always surrounded by lush vegetation.
Highlights:
- Jardina viewpoint: A mandatory stop to contemplate La Laguna and the Aguere Valley from the heights.
- Cruz del Carmen: Park visitor centre with interpretative trails and a rest area.
- La Laguna: World Heritage City where we recommend a brief stop to admire its historic centre.
Stage 4: Discovering the North Coast (40 km)
From La Laguna we head towards Punta del Hidalgo, passing through towns such as Tegueste, Tejina and Bajamar. This section combines more open roads with some sharp bends, always with the ocean as a backdrop.
Places of interest:
- Punta del Hidalgo: A coastal town with an emblematic lighthouse and natural pools.
- Bajamar: Famous for its natural pools of crystal clear water, ideal for a refreshing swim.
- Valle Guerra: Agricultural area where you can visit local wineries.
Best times to travel Anaga by motorbike
Although Tenerife enjoys a privileged climate all year round, there are ideal seasons for exploring the Anaga Massif:

- Disadvantages: Occasional light rain, especially in March.
Autumn (September-November)
- Advantages: Mild temperatures, less tourist traffic, less busy roads
- Disadvantages: Shorter days than in summer
Winter (December-February)
- Advantages: Extraordinarily green landscapes, seasonally active waterfalls
- Disadvantages: Increased likelihood of rain, fog at higher altitudes.
Summer (June-August)
- Advantages: Long days, virtually no chance of rain.
- Disadvantages: Possible heat in low-lying areas, increased tourist traffic.
Practical Advice for Motorcyclists in Anaga
Recommended Equipment

- Gloves: Essential for control and safety
- Action camera: The views deserve to be immortalised
